Monthly Favorites – March 2016

Welcome back!

It’s time again to discuss my favorite products from this month! So without further ado, let’s get started!

Faves.jpg

I was really feeling colorful eyes this month, since the weather here has been a little more springy (even though it snowed today, but I digress.)

So to accomplish that color I was craving, I used my Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette.

Mermaids forever.jpg (Retails for $15)

Makeup Revolution is a UK brand that is pretty new to hit Ulta stores in America, and I’m so happy they did. I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the products I’ve tried so far, this one being no exception.

Mermaids forever palette swatches.jpg

This has a beautiful array of color with a few neutrals mixed in as well. Comprised of mostly shimmer, with only 2 or 3 mattes in the entire 32 piece palette.

As for the quality, not every shade is a total hit by itself, some of these really do require a base. But for the price, I can’t complain! Most of the shades are very buttery, pigmented, smooth, and look stunning on the eyes!

My next favorite of the month has to be the Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in “Outrageous Emerald”.

Prestige total intensity.jpg (Retails for $5.95)

I am so ridiculously impressed with this eyeliner. This is the creamiest, most pigmented eyeliner I have ever used. The texture is very comparable to the Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliners.

Eyeliner swatch.jpg

This is an absolutely gorgeous eyeliner, so I’m bummed that I’ve only been able to get my hands on this one, because I want every color!

Finishing up with eye products, let’s talk about the L’Oréal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara.

Loreal mascara.jpg (Retails for $7.99)

First things first, I love the packaging, this looks so high end for a drugstore mascara!

But on to the actual product. If you’ve been here for awhile, you know that my holy grail mascara is the L’Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black, but I honestly think I like this even more!

mascara wand.jpg

The brush is very reminiscent of the ever coveted Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, with its hourglass shaped wand.

As for the formula, it builds volume like you would not believe. My lashes have never looked better than when I started wearing this mascara! It is a bit more of a dry formula, but I personally like that, as I feel it builds on itself much better than a wet mascara, which helps keep the mascara from getting all clumpy and spidery.  So if you’re in the market for a new mascara, definitely check this one out!

I only have one face product to share with you this month, and it comes in at a whopping price tag of $1! I’m talking about the Elf Cosmetics Shimmering Facial Whips.

facial whip.jpg

These are somewhat of a veteran in Elf’s line. There was a time when everything in the line was only $1, but I won’t complain, because the quality of their products have changed dramatically for the better.  But on to the actual products at hand.

facial whip swatches.jpg (Shades: Golden Peach, Spotlight, Lilac Petal)

These are cream highlighters that come in a variety of shades. And the best part? They smell exactly like fruit loops cereal, and I love it.

These blend easily into the skin and give a beautiful dewy sheen. I use these either under my foundation, over my makeup on my cheekbones as a highlight, add them into a more matte foundation to add a little luminosity, or add to a primer for the same effect. These are absolute must-haves, especially for only $1!

Let’s finish up this post with my favorite thing to talk about, lip products!

First up, the Replenish Soap Natural Lip Balm in “Creamy Caramel“.

Replenish lip balm.jpg (Retails for $3)

I was lucky enough to be able to do an entire review on these products, and was blown away by everything I was able to try, but this product has probably been the biggest stand out for me. My lips have never been this smooth, and I have become totally loyal to this lip balm!

If you’re interested in trying some of the products, my code MAKEUP10 is still valid until April 8th!

Next, for an actual color lip product, I couldn’t put down my Nyx Matte Lipstick in “Whipped Caviar”.

Nyx matte lipstick.jpg (Retails for $5.99)

Whipped caviar.jpg

As most of you may know, the matte lips trend has proven that it’s not going anywhere in 2016, but if you’re not a fan of the intense, drying matte liquid lipsticks, these are a good alternative for you.

Whipped Caviar swatch.jpg

This is one of those dusty mauve-brown colors that everyone is in love with right now, but for good reason. It’s such a stunning take on a nude lipstick.

As for the formula, it’s completely matte, very smooth and creamy, comfortable on the lips, and has great staying power. If you haven’t tried these yet, I highly suggest you pick up this color!

If you haven’t realized by now, I LOVE Nyx lip products, and use them frequently. So my next lip favorite is yet another Nyx product, the Butter Lipstick in “Snowcap”.

nyx butter lipstick.jpg (Retails for $5.99)

I rarely hear people talking about these lipsticks, but I absolutely love them! They are exactly as they sound, smooth as butter and super hydrating. I strongly suggest you pick up a few of these!

Snow cap.jpg

By itself, Snow Cap is a little too nude for me, but when it’s paired with my final favorite, the color is so incredibly stunning.

And the last favorite for this post is my Wet ‘n Wild Coloricon Lip Liner in “Chestnut”.

Chestnut

This is not the shade of lip liner I would typically go for, but I actually won this little number in a giveaway that was hosted by Mallory of @champagnetastesbeerbudget on Instagram, and I’m so glad I have it, because it’s a total must have in my collection now.

This shade is PERFECT for not only achieving a warm, brown matte lip if used all over in place of a lipstick, but is also great to deepen up any lipstick that is a little too nude to wear, as I stated with the Nyx Butter Lipstick in “Snow Cap”.

Did I mention these are only $0.99? Yeah, seriously. Great quality, beautiful shade range, total win! I definitely need to add more of these to my collection, and I suggest you do the same!

That’ll be it for this month’s favorite products, please stay tuned for tomorrow’s post, which will be a look I’ve done using all of these products, so you can see how they look in action.

March 2016 Ipsy Unbagging + Review

Welcome back!

It’s that time of the month again where we take a look inside and talk about the products I received in my *Ipsy bag!

If you haven’t seen my previous posts, Ipsy is a subscription service for $10 per month. Once a month, a bag filled with 4-5 personalized beauty goodies shows up in your mailbox!

So now that we’ve got the details out of the way, let’s get into the bag!

Ipsy march 2016

This month’s theme was “Hello, Spring!”, hence our very colorful bag, which I honestly don’t like at all, just not my style. But on to the actual products.

We’ll start with my least favorite of the bunch, and get it out of the way. The Marc Anthony Perfect Blow Dry Smoothing Cream.

Smoothing cream.jpg (This is a sample size at 1.69 oz, full size is 6.76 oz and retails at $8.99)

This just did absolutely nothing for my hair. Didn’t make it any softer, and was just an extra step I don’t normally bother taking in my hair routine.

I have very long hair, so blow drying is just a pain more than anything. If this actually worked to smooth out my hair, I could potentially see myself doing it more often, but this product did the exact opposite. It was heavy and weighed my hair down, actually causing me to have frizz, which I never struggle with. Definitely not a fan.

Moving on to something I really enjoyed, the Manna Kadar 3-in-1 Blush, Highlighter, Eyeshadow in “Fantasy”.

Mannakaddar.jpg (Retails for $19)

I initially thought this would be way too dark to be a blush or highlight on my skin, but I find that you get a very different result depending on the type of brush you use.

To highlight my cheekbones, I used a fan brush, which isn’t as dense as a lot of other brushes. So instead of packing on the rose gold shade, it resulted in beautiful sheen on my skin to areas applied.

To use this product as a blush, I used a more dense brush and packed on the color instead of just lightly sweeping it on with a wispy brush.

Mannakaddar swatch.jpg (Stub hand swatch ftw)

I am all about multitasking products, and am super happy to add this one to my collection!

Next thing I was really excited to see in this bag was the Pixi Beauty Blush Duo in “Rose Gold”.

Pixi Rose Gold.jpg (Full size comes with a kabuki brush and retails for $18 on Pixi’s website)

I rarely wear blush, as I naturally have very rosy cheeks and work very hard to correct and conceal that, but I really do like this duo. The blush is a beautiful satin finish sheer rose color, which is very easy for most skin colors to pull off.

Pixi swatch.jpg

The highlight is definitely my favorite part of this duo, which is a beautiful champagne white gold that looks absolutely gorgeous on the cheekbones.  The texture is very finely milled, leaving a beautiful sheen on the cheeks without being outwardly glittery.

Having never tried any Pixi products before and this being my first, I’m really excited to try more from the line!

I don’t talk about brushes very often on here because quite frankly, they bore me. But they are absolutely essential, so it’s nice to get one every so often in this subscription service.

This month I received the Beau Gâchis Paris Eyebrow Brush.

brush.jpg (Retails for $15)

The cut on this brush is really nice for cream and gel eyeliners and brow products, as well as powder. But beyond that, this is a pretty unspectacular brush.

brush head.jpg

Whereas I don’t dislike it and find the quality to be good, I have other brushes for a significantly lower price tag that perform just as well as this one.

And finally, a product I was really shocked to see in this month’s bag, the Illamasqua Precision Ink Eyeliner in “Abyss”.

Illamasqua.jpg

Illamasqua is a very pricey brand, this liner itself coming in at a whopping $28! So right away, since this is a full size, you’re getting an amazing deal. Only $10 for this $28 product and 4 other products!

Illamasqua liner .jpg

This is a felt tip applicator, which is very long and flexible, making it super easy to get a thin, precise line. This formula is so ridiculously black and opaque, which I really, really like.

Illamasqua swatch.jpg (Seriously. Gorgeous)

Illamasqua states that this liner is waterproof, and will not come off unless you remove it, which I found to be accurate. I have pretty watery eyes, so I am prone to rubbing my eyes throughout the day and this liner did not move at all, but was still very easy to remove with makeup remover at the end of the day.

This is also marketed as a nail art pen, which I haven’t tried because I suck at nail art. The website says to set it with a top coat, if you’re interested in trying that.

The only cons for this liner for me is the price, and the rather pungent smell associated with it, but I can get past that. I’m really over the moon for this liner, which is unfortunate, due to the price.

That’ll wrap up this post on my March Ipsy bag!

The Monthly Meow: Nature’s Variety Instinct Raw Boost Minis Duck Formula Freeze-Dried Cat Treats (March 2016)

Welcome back to the next installment of the Monthly Meow!

If you didn’t catch February’s post, once a month I’ll be reviewing a product for our furry friends instead of a beauty product.

This is Daechir (Day-sheer [pronunciation for reader’s convenience]), my oriental shorthair / Siamese mix, who will be putting different products to the test every month.

12802697_1165294263480834_9011499698965374171_n (Took a few outings this month, with the weather finally warming up a little.)

This month, Daechir and I bring you a review of these all natural Nature’s Variety Instinct Raw Boost Minis freeze dried treats, available at Chewy.com

Treats.jpg

IMG_4808.JPG

The benefits to these treats are listed as:

  • 100% freeze dried raw ingredients including real duck, turkey, carrots and apples
  • Great taste and health benefits
  • All-natural with no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives
  • Grain-free and gluten-free
  • No corn, wheat, soy or fillers
  • Only two calories per piece
  • Made in the USA

(Copied from Chewy.com)

About nature's variety.jpg

Most natural treats like this will cost an average of $10-$15, but these are on sale for $7.99 on Chewy.com, making it a great deal!

So with the details out of the way, let’s get into how Daechir feels about these!

actual treats.jpg

These are a bit bigger than your typical treats, which I really do appreciate. But as you can tell from the photo above, they’re very flaky. The entire bottom of the pack was virtually dust by the time it got to me, I think my mail couriers are a little rough, along with these treats being fragile.

With that being said, I find these to be more of a “snack” than a treat. You really can’t put these in any sort of toy for your cat because they are so flaky. I find the best way to deliver them is to hold them in a clean open palm and let your cat eat them, which is the least messy route to take when it comes to these.

As for the quality of the treats themselves, Daechir loves the flavor. So much, in fact, that with a few left in the bag she managed to steal it and attempted to eat the rest whilst hiding under my bed.

Pets are kind of like toddlers, if it’s eerily quiet, they’re probably doing something naughty. But A for effort, Daechir.

daechir.jpg (We attempted to get a photo of her eating them, but she was not feeling a photo shoot.)

So to wrap this up, my final thoughts on these are that they’re great treats with high quality ingredients, albeit a little high maintenance. Price you pay for greatness, I suppose. If you’re looking to give your kitty something new and fun to try, definitely check these out!

That’ll be it for this post!

If you liked it, please take a moment to subscribe, and receive email notifications every time I upload a new post!

Replenish Soap Company- Review!

Welcome back!

Today I bring you a post centered around some natural, cruelty free body care products I recently had the opportunity to try out.

I’m talking about Replenish Soap Company., an Etsy shop that sells natural body scrubs, soaps, lip balms, bath bombs, and scented wax melts.

Replenish Soap Co.jpg

This company was started after the owner began having breakouts from popular lip balm brands, and decided to begin making her own, without all the unnecessary chemicals typically added to products like this.

So without further ado, let’s get into my thoughts on these products.

First thing I want to talk about is the handmade cold process soap in the Lemongrass scent.

Lemongrass.jpg

For starters, I really love the packaging on all of these products. It’s simple and classy, but not overwhelming.

But for the actual soap, I typically shy away from scents like this, simply because I tend to prefer more warm, sultry scents. But this one has totally changed my mind on that.

The scent is so fresh and light, perfect for bringing a little spring into your life, especially if you live in Montana….

04fc02296c793a56874b5635c4927f4b.jpg                                                                                                                    (So painfully accurate)

This soap works up into a very rich lather, and leaves my skin feeling so incredibly moisturized and clean without stripping my skin, and the lemongrass scent lingers on my skin all day long.

This is going to be a summer staple for me as well, since mosquitoes don’t like lemongrass, and I don’t like mosquitoes.

These soaps are also very multitasking, as you can grate it to use it as a homemade detergent, and would even be suitable to use on your young children, and possibly your pets.

Not to mention, it’s only $6! Affordable and amazing, my favorite.

Next up on the list of products, the Apricot Freesia Salt Scrub

Apricot ().(This is just a sample size, the full size comes  in a 3oz container)

The only “bad” thing I could say about this product is that it isn’t quite abrasive enough for me. I’m not sure if that’s because I had a sample size, but that’s what I assume. I have mild KP on my arms, so my body scrubs need to be pretty harsh to make a huge difference there. If you have normal skin, this will definitely be enough scrubbing power for you. But this softened my skin nicely, and left a beautiful scent on my skin (that mixes well with the lemongrass soap, I might add). The full size of this product is only $5, which absolutely blows my mind. $5 for 3 oz of a natural, preservative free salt scrub is really a heck of a deal, so I will absolutely be purchasing more.

Another scrub I had the opportunity to try is the Vanilla Hazelnut Salt Scrub.

Vanilla Hazelnut Scrub.jpg

This salt scrub contains actual coffee grounds, so I found this one to be PERFECT for my skin, having a little more scrubbing power due to the grinds.

I think there was a little classical conditioning going on while I was using this, because that coffee smell really wakes me up in the morning. Like the other products, the smell lingers on my skin without being overwhelming, and left more of a creamy coffee scent that basically puts any human being into a state of pure bliss. Especially if you run nearly exclusively on coffee, like myself.

I really, really love this one, and could not recommend it more. I’m really sad to have finished up the sample size, because this is literally the only scrub I want to use anymore, and I’ve been really die hard with my Treehut scrubs for quite some time, but this is just the best one I’ve ever used, and I don’t see myself going back to Treehut any time soon.

And to finish this post up with my favorite product of all, the Creamy Caramel Lip Balm

Creamy Caramel .jpg (Again, LOVE the packaging.)

Confession: I am a lip balm junkie. I have perpetually dry lips so I find myself using lip balm so often that I probably need an intervention. So needless to say, I’ve tried so many different lip balms, but I have never tried one that actually did as much for my lips as this one has.

My boyfriend even tried it and gave me his own mini review, saying it’s “More like a ‘lip lotion’, moisturizing without being greasy, and it tastes great.” So I guess he can just take over my blog, because he’s a pro now, but I totally agree with him.

But this is honestly the best lip balm I’ve ever tried. My lips have never been more smooth and soft than they are right now. It actually shocks me, because I cant remember a time when my lips have ever been this nice, and it’s definitely because of this product.

I don’t want anyone to get the wrong impression; yes, these products were sent to me, but I will never be anything but 100% honest and genuine in my reviews, regardless of where the products have come from. God himself could come down and give me a product to review, and if I don’t like it, I would be honest about it.

The owner of Replenish was kind enough to give all of my readers a special discount code, available until April 8th, for 10% off of your order, as well as the first 50 orders receiving a free sample.

*The code for 10% off is MAKEUP10

Use this at checkout for a little bit of savings on these already highly affordable products.

I hope y’all have enjoyed this post, and will give Replenish a try. I am so incredibly impressed with everything I tried, and can’t wait to try more of the line, so thank you to Angie for the opportunity!

Thanks for stopping by!

Monthly Favorites -February 2016

Welcome back!

Today I’ll be talking about all of my favorite, most used products of this month! This has been the month of rediscovering old things in my collection that I had forgotten about, and I’m so glad I pulled them out again!

So let’s start out with skincare, which I know tends to be kind of boring, so we’ll breeze through it really quick.

This is like a lifetime favorite, but I went back to it this month for not only skincare, but makeup as well, the Now Foods Organic Jojoba Oil .

jojoba oil.jpg

Just a few drops of this magic stuff takes my skin from dull and dry to healthy and luminous.

I generally use just a few drops after my morning and evening skincare, but I recently began using it as a primer, testing it as a dupe for the Smashbox Primer Oil. Using only one  small drop and blending it well into the skin gives you the exact same results as the Smashbox primer, with a much smaller price tag. I absolutely recommend this product to everyone with dry skin, it’s a multitasking, lifesaving product!

Sticking with face products for now, I’ve been using my Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation almost exclusively this entire month.

Rimmel foundation.jpg

(My shade is Light Ivory, for anyone who’s curious. It’s a great shade for me!)

This foundation has amazing coverage, without looking or feeling heavy. I apply this with a damp blending sponge, and do not set it with any powder and I love how it makes my skin look. As the name suggests, the lasting power is really great, and wears all day on my skin.

Something else I feel I should mention is that this foundation is incredibly versatile and can work for all skin types. If you’re oily, use a primer and set with powder, and you’ll be set! All in all, this is one of my favorites foundations of all time, and it’s one of the most affordable at the drugstore.

Another Rimmel face product has been a favorite this month, the Match Perfection Concealer

Rimmel concealer.jpg

This concealer has a salmon tone to it, which makes it great for not only concealing, but correcting at the same time. I don’t find it to be drying whatsoever on my under eyes, and I get a lot of great wear time out of it.

I think this would be a great concealer for those who have really dark under eye discoloration, and don’t want to fuss around with a corrector and a concealer, and would rather have a 2 in 1!

Last for the face, the Elf Cool Bronzer.

Cool bronzer.jpg

I picked this up a while ago, but I forgot about it with all the other contouring products that hit the market this past year. I decided to pull it out again and realized how much I really enjoy it!

bronzer swatch.jpg

As the name suggests, this is a cool toned, matte, “mosaic”style bronzer composed of  four different shades. If you so desired, you could use the isolated colors and get 4 separate tones out of it, or just swirl it all together to get the shade swatched above.

I use this as a contour shade in the hollows of my cheeks, and the color works beautifully for me. If you are looking for an affordable contour powder, look no further.

I only have one lip product favorite this month, and it’s the Elf Cosmetic Mineral Lipstick in “Beautiful Berry”.

Beautiful Berry.jpg

I have several of these, and I really enjoy the formula. This shade in particular is one that I really loved around this time last year and dug it out of the lipstick grave yard to enjoy again!

Elf lipstick swatch.jpg

These are beautifully pigmented, comfortable, have a satin-matte formula, and have really incredible lasting power. I highly recommend these lipsticks, and need to expand my collection!

We’ll finish up this post with eye products, starting with my favorite palette of this month, the Lorac Pro Palette.

Lorac Pro.jpg

This is an oldie but a goodie, comprised of 8 mattes and 8 shimmer neutrals of impeccable quality.

Lorac swatches.jpg

I think if you’re looking to spend money on just one high end palette, it should be this one. These shades can go from smokey to super wearable, making it one of the most versatile palettes in my collection, and the quality is unbeatable. Absolute must have, and I’m glad I pulled it out of my collection again this month.

Last product I’m going to talk about today is one I never thought I would ever buy, let alone love, the Maybelline Colossal Chaotic mascara.

Maybelline colossal.jpg

This mascara has some incredibly bizarre claims of giving you “disorganized” lashes, complete with the very strange wand, and I am definitely not into that look

Maybelline wand.jpg

But I really like what this does to my lashes when used in a conventional sense. It adds a lot of volume and fullness to my otherwise sad lashes. I have to admit, I never would have picked this up, had it not been on clearance for $3, so thanks Shopko.

That will wrap it up for this post! Thank you for reading, and if you liked it, be sure to subscribe to my blog for email notifications every time I upload.

Thanks for stopping by!
