Arachne’s Demise Review!

Welcome back!

Today I bring you a review on a few products from an indie brand called Arachne’s Demise.  cosmetics overview.jpg

Arachne’s Demise specializes in natural cosmetics as well as homemade castile soaps, an entire beard line (we won’t talk about that here today, happy to report I don’t have a beard to take care of.), and more!

The owner was kind enough to give me a wonderful discount, as well as sending a few things free of charge. So without further ado, let’s get into it, because we have a lot to talk about!

Starting with the soaps I tried, the Secret Garden Castile soap

Secret Garden Castile Soap (Just went out of stock, but I’m sure it will be back soon!.)

This soap smells so amazing! It’s a very warm, almost masculine leaning scent, with woodsy tones. This soap is absolutely beautiful too. Little known fact, I’ve always loved old keys, I used to collect them when I was younger. So I couldn’t resist this soap, and it actually came with a little key charm that I made into a necklace.

secret garden collage.jpg (The bottom of the soap has a key that was molded out of soap embedded in the bottom. How cool is that?)

As for the formula, this is a castile soap, which is made out of pure olive oil. The lather that comes from this is different from what I’m typically used to. The soap is very slippery when wet, and foams up in tiny little bubbles and makes for a really rich, soft lather. This kind of soap is for particularly great for dry, sensitive skin, and for children as well!

I really love the wax seal on all of these as well, I love the small details  that have been put into this soap, it really shows how much care is put into it.

All in all, I really love this soap and have been using it consistently, and really recommend it to anyone who likes the same kind of scents that I do!

The owner of the company, Annie, even makes YouTube videos showing how she makes her soap! Check out THIS video to see how this soap was made!

Next up, the Bee Sweet Castile Soap.

Bee Sweet Castile Soap.jpg (Just went out of stock too 😦 Hopefully will be back soon!)

This soap has a very sweet honey almond scent, due to the organic almond meal, local honey and bee pollen in the soap.

This one lathers just as well as the other one, and smells great on the skin.

The little bee and hive sculpted out of soap on the top are so ridiculously adorable! Mine lost his wing, but worse things have happened. I think this soap is excellent, just like the Secret Garden soap, and would make a great summer gift!

We have a lot of products to go through, so I’m going to try to breeze through it all as quickly as possible!

Moving on to the cosmetics, we’ll start with face products, the Creme Luminizer in “Radiant Gold”.

Creme Luminizer gold.jpg (Just went out of stock as well, I expect a big restock soon!) ($14)

I mentioned this in my June Favorites post, and I have really been enjoying using this as a primer. This adds a beautiful glow to my skin while hydrating at the same time. My only qualm with this product is that I wish the mica in the formula was a bit more finely milled. Whereas I really love the effect this gives, if you get up close to my skin while wearing it you can see particles of glitter. It’s very subtle but it should be noted nonetheless.  I’m still a huge fan or this and will continue to wear it! This also smells like subtle roses, which is awesome. There are also several shades suitable for most skin tones!

Next up for face products, the Creme Concealing & Contouring Palette.

I have mine in the shade “Fair”, as always. This was also in my June Favorites post, and just like the last product, I really like this. These colors are great for fair skin, and blend effortlessly. This is a very emollient product, and I do recommend keeping it in a cool, dark place due to that.

If you’ve got very oily skin, I’m not sure I would recommend this to you, since it’s very emollient. but if you’re normal or dry like me, I definitely suggest checking this out!

Next up, eye products. And we’ll start with the Pure & Natural Mineral Eyeliners.

Pure & Natural eyeliner.jpg (8)

I have two of these, in the shades “Nightlife” and “Penny”.

eyeliner swatcges.jpg (“Penny” on the left, “Nighlife” on the right)

As you can see in the swatches, these are highly pigmented. I did have an issue with “Nightlife” melting during shipping, and it was replaced free of charge immediately, so definitely a testament to excellent customer service.

As for the formula, I prefer Penny to Nightlife. Penny is a little stiffer than Nightlife, so the color payoff is a little stronger, and it sticks to my waterline much better than Nightlife does. Nightlife goes on with good pigmentation, but kind of leaves a film on my eyes. I have chronic dry eyes, so a lot of liners will kind of separate and leave a film on my eyeball. If you’re a contact lens wearer, I’d avoid this for that reason. Otherwise, these have really nice staying power and last well on my waterline.

My last eye product to talk about is the Rose Water & Mineral Mascara.

Rose Water Mineral Mascara.jpg ($8)

My adventure with this mascara was kind of interesting. My first tube came to me very clumpy, and that’s because my tube had melted during shipping and resolidified once I got it. I was immediately sent another one, and I ended up accidentally breaking the wand off in the tube. I’m very sure this was user error, and I probably pulled on it way too hard. But because of the issues I’ve had, I really can’t recommend this product due to not being able to try the formula. I don’t count this against  the brand or company at all, and I really think that it was just a total freak accident, and perhaps I’ll repurchase soon to give it an actual try.

Moving on to lip products, I’ll start with the Lip Frostings.

lip frostings.jpg ($6)

These are gorgeous, non-sticky glosses with beautiful pigmentation. My only issue with is the packaging. There’s nothing inherently wrong with it, but I would really prefer a traditional lip gloss tube with a doe foot applicator. These can get kind of hard to apply due to the squeeze tube. That’s definitely not a deal breaker though.

These also smell strongly of rose. I personally find the smell really pleasant, but there is a subtle taste as well. It isn’t particularly offensive to me at all, but if you’re someone who is sensitive to that kind of thing, I would avoid these.

All three of these glosses have shimmer in them, but there is no gritty feeling whatsoever. They last about as well as would be expected with any gloss. Around 3 hours without eating, but I do typically need to touch them up after a few hours.

faerie swatch.jpg (Lip Frosting in “Faerie”.)

Faerie is a beautiful nude with a slight purple microshimmer running through it, and it’s absolutely stunning. This is definitely my favorite shade of the bunch, and I have been wearing it constantly.

this one is actually gold digger not the other one whoops.jpg (Lip Frosting in “Flambe”)

Flambe is a little more sheer than it initially appears in the tube, but can be built up to very full opacity. This is a warm orange shade with finely milled golden shimmer throughout. This color is great to warm up any nude that’s a little too nude, or to be worn on it’s own.

this one is actually gold digger not the other one whoops (Lip Frosting in “Gold Digger”)

This one appears similar to Flambe in the swatch, but is more of a warm pink than orange. The gold shimmers in this are more prevalent. I really have nothing bad to say about these at all, and I really like them all, and more than likely will get the rest of the shades!

Moving on to the last product we’ll be talking about today, the Pure & Natural Lipsticks.

lippies.jpg ($8)

These are traditional bullet-style lipsticks that are highly pigmented and very creamy. As you can see in the photos, these all have some sort of shimmer, but nothing overwhelming. It’s got just enough shimmer to really make the lips look plump and healthy.

As for the packaging, it’s a very basic black tube with the label adhered to the end of the tube. The shape of the lipstick itself easily glides around the contours of the lip, making it very easy to create a nice line without the aid of a lip liner.

Pure & Natural Mineral Lipstick in Birthday Suit.jpg

These all have a very natural scent, doesn’t smell like anything in particular, but it is noticeable. The shade “Brick House” has the strongest scent of them all, and actually has a bit of a taste as well. Again, not crazy unpleasant, but should be noted.

As for the formula, these apply very smooth, creamy, and opaque. They wear really well, especially for a cream lipstick.

Birthday Suit lipstick.jpg (Pure & Natural Lipstick in “Birthday Suit”

Birthday Suit is a beautiful warm, peachy nude with the slightest hint of shimmer running through it. By itself, it can be a little too nude on me, but I really love to top this shade with the Lip Frosting in “Flambe” and bring out those warm tones. This applies very smooth and even, and has been in my every day rotation since I got it.

brick house swatch (Pure & Natural Lipstick in “Brick House”

This shade is exactly what the name implies, a beautiful deep brick red. I prefer to wear this one with a lip liner, as it’s typically the best thing to do with darker shades. This applies beautifully, and doesn’t really have a noticeable shimmer. This is absolutely going to be a go-to for me in the fall, but that won’t stop me from wearing it now!

tigress swatch.jpg (Pure & Natural Lipstick in “Tigress”. )

As we’re all aware, metallic lips are back in trend, and I seriously had to put this one away so I would wear something else, that’s how much I adore this shade. It’s a nude, but it sets itself apart from the rest of the nudes in my collection because of how unique it is. It looks beautiful with any eye look, and the shimmer in it really makes the lips appear more plump. This is definitely my favorite shade I picked up, and I cannot stop wearing this!

lip color swatches and name.jpg (Round up of all the lip colors heavily swatched)

So ultimately, I’m incredibly happy with everything I’ve tried from this line. This is still an indie brand that is in progress, but for everything to be this great right off the bat really makes me expect more incredible things coming from this company.

ADmakeuo.jpg (Quick makeup look using several Arachne’s Demise products, also let’s ignore my vicious sunburn)

  • Creme Luminizer in Radiant Gold as my primer
  • “Penny” eyeliner in my waterline
  • “Tigress” lipstick topped with “Flambe” lip frosting.

Necklace is the key charm from the Secret Garden soap!

And that’ll be it for today’s post! I’ll link Arachne’s Demise Etsy shop, as well as social media accounts below for those who are interested. If you check it out, be sure to let her know that Makeup In Montana sent you!
