Welcome back to the next installment of The Monthly Meow! Can you believe we’ve been doing these for almost a year? Crazy!

If you’re not familiar, The Monthly Meow is when we review a product for our feline friends, courtesy of and my cat, Daechir.

This month we’ll we talking about the Evanger’s Gently Dried Beef Heart Treats.* These are not only for cats, but dogs and ferrets.

This 3.5 oz bag retails for $8.39 on, very fair for 100% whole meat hand cut treats, in my opinion.

As you can see, the only ingredient is beef heart, which is exactly what I want to see from pet treats.  Now, let’s look at some of the benefits listed from

  • Single ingredient beef hearts are nutrient dense treats that can be a treat, training award, food topper, or reconstituted in warm water for 3-5 minutes for a savory snack.
  • Grain-free, gluten-free product, endorsed by the cRc Kosher for Passover.
  • No additives or artificial ingredients
  • Highly palatable treats are perfect for finicky or picky pets
  • Suitable for both dogs & cats

Now I initially thought ‘gently dried’ meant that they would still have a bit of softness to them, and completely neglected the fact that they say “extra crunchy” on the front of the package. Let me tell you, that is 100% true. These say they can be reconstituted in warm water, but it didn’t really work for me.

Because of the extreme crunchiness, Daechir just really didn’t have any interest in them. She would maybe lick them, but they were just a little much for her. However, the dogs LOVED these. They absolutely couldn’t get enough, and loved the super crunchy texture. So if your cat (or pet) has dental issues, I wouldn’t recommend this for them. But for our 7 month old puppies, these were a smash hit.

As you can see in the photo, these are actually very large treats. Before giving them to the dogs I would snap them in half, because one per each seems like a lot to me and a possible choking hazard, but that’s up to your discretion.  If your dogs don’t double as Dysons, that may not be a concern to you.

Overall, my cat had zero interest in these. But, I think they’re an excellent value for quality, and the puppies were head over heels for these super crunchy beef heart chunks. Even though Daechir wasn’t a fan, I still give these a big thumbs up, and am interested in trying more from Evangers.

And with that, we’ll end today’s post. I hope you’ve enjoyed it, and if you have, be sure to subscribe to see more like this.

As always,

thanks for stopping by!
